The Cirque de Navacelles: an exceptional natural site
Classified as a Grand Site de France, the Cirque de Navacelles is a geological wonder nestled between the Larzac and Blandas limestone plateaus. This vast natural amphitheater, carved out by the river Vis, offers breathtaking panoramic views. Located about an hour from Camping Les Cigales, it’s an ideal destination for a day’s hiking, observation or picnicking in the heart of wild Occitanie.
A spectacular landscape of gorges and plateaus
The Cirque de Navacelles stands out for its impressive shape, sculpted by the river Vis over thousands of years. This former river loop, now abandoned by the river, forms a vast natural amphitheater encircled by the limestone cliffs of the Larzac and Blandas limestone plateaus. At the far end of this vertiginous cirque, the hamlet of Navacelles seems frozen in time, protected by the natural ramparts that surround it. From the viewpoints at Blandas or Larzac, visitors can enjoy an exceptional panorama of this landscape shaped by erosion and time. The site is also a remarkable biodiversity reserve, home to numerous plant and animal species specific to limestone environments. It’s a place that fascinates geology enthusiasts and lovers of wide-open spaces alike. Whatever the season, the Cirque de Navacelles offers an ideal setting for contemplating nature at its most spectacular and wild, just an hour’s drive from Camping Les Cigales.

Activities and discoveries around the circus
The Cirque de Navacelles offers a variety of activities for all ages and visitor profiles. Several signposted hiking trails start from the lookouts or from the village, allowing you to explore the gorges, follow the Vis river or reach the Moulin de la Foux, an old restored water mill, accessible after a beautiful walk through the undergrowth.
In summer, you can swim in the cool, clear waters of the natural basins of the Vis. Guided tours are offered during the high season, accompanied by explanatory panels on the fauna, flora and geological formation of the site. Temporary exhibitions, cultural activities and special events (readings, shows, screenings) enhance the experience.
Picnic areas are available close to the parking lot, and several observation points are equipped with orientation tables. Whether you’re a sportsman, a contemplative or a nature enthusiast, the Cirque de Navacelles is a complete destination to discover during your stay in Hérault.
Practical information and access
